A MOVEMENT LAW FIRM

For the Whole Person

Wholistic Practice and Representation for the Whole Person.

We do nothing without purpose and operate under four primary pillars:

SPIRITUALITY

Whether or not one holds a formal religious or spiritual belief, alignment with purpose and intention is the animating force of all that we do at For the People. We understand that the work of Justice — true Justice — is a spiritual imperative. Drawn from Fanonian analysis and perennial spiritual traditions, we believe that to dismantle harmful systems, we must first unroot them from within our own minds and spirits. As articulated by late political prisoner Imam Jamil Al-Amin, the highest form of struggle is one conducted with awareness and Consciousness — a struggle in which we first deal with ourselves, so that what emanates from that inner reckoning may transform the environment and the social context around us.

Spirituality, in our practice, is not ornamental. It is structural. It is the call to kenosis — the emptying of ego so that the True Self may pour into the client, the case, and the community. It is the practice of deep, conscious listening. It is the discipline of meditation, contemplative prayer, somatic grounding, and inward reflection that prepares us to be fully present to the people we serve. We are called here, each of us, to carry out a cosmic assignment — individually and collectively. This pillar grounds every other in the recognition that our work is sacred, and that the sacred calls us, always, into action.

LAW

We practice law from an unyieldingly and unapologetically liberatory lens. We practice from the original and higher purpose of what it means to be a lawyer: bearers of peace, Love, and Justice. We believe that lawyers are not merely technicians — they are, or ought to be, peacemakers, witnesses, and conduits of freedom. We employ traditional, highly technical, and experienced legal skill alongside interdisciplinary, sometimes ancient or cultural practices representing other ways of knowing — implementing our method, known as the Curate Method, informed by Dr. Joy James’ theory of Concentric Circles of Care not only around a case, but around the whole person and the community who inhabits it.

We do not just practice law. We create client-centered, trauma-informed, tailored solutions that resonate with your unique circumstances. Informed by liberation movements and wholistic, integrative law practices, our approach is grounded not only in substantial legal training, but in individual and collective lived experience.

MOVEMENT AND COMMUNITY

Consciousness and awareness call and convene us into action. We understand that legal matters do not exist in isolation — behind every case is a person, and behind that person is a community, a history, and a movement. We are deeply embedded in and accountable to the movements of our time and the broader project of dismantling every vestige of harmful systems.

Our work builds concentric circles of care that radiate outward from the client — through family and direct support, through local community and organizations, through national networks, and into international human rights frameworks. We believe in the support committee model as the organizational manifestation of community care: a living structure that mobilizes legal, medical, cultural, spiritual, and political resources in service of a person and their freedom.

Relationship defines the way we do our work — relationship with the sacred, with the land, with our ancestors, with our communities, with each other, and with you. We are not outside of this work observing it. We are in it with you.

CULTURE AND ART

Art is a universal medium of communication etched in human consciousness before language. Art is powerful. Art is disruptive. Art is liberating. For millennia, art has synthesized and interpreted culture, told the story of a people, and served as road flares and guiding lights to inform us of who we are and where we are going. Culture — the arts, politics, and spirituality — are our currents to engineer a more just world. Art holds a healing quality that no legal brief alone can provide.

This is why Curate. — the cultural and philanthropic expression of For the People — exists. Curate. catalyzes, advances, and promotes arising Conscious in the practice of law and movement spaces by cultivating disciplines rooted in awareness. Culture is not a supplement to our legal practice. It is the marrow of how we do our work.

WE ARE YOU.

We are bound together in this time and space. Behind every legal issue is the whole person. We understand that, at times, taking legal action is an act of self-care, self-respect, and a means of being heard.

We are unapologetically Black, queer, disabled, Southern, formerly incarcerated, survivor, artist, abolitionist — a movement law firm dedicated to disrupting and eradicating all vestiges of harmful systems by promoting a society and systems informed by and grounded in Revolutionary Love. Our dedication and commitment are to the sacred, to Justice, to our community, to our people, to movements, and to the containers which support them.

Our approach and work involve action based on deep conscious listening, Revolutionary Love, and kindness.

We hear you.
We see you.
We are you.

So, let's get free together.
